Spent the first half of the evening scanning Esquire Magazine from March 1940. My Uncle Sonny gave me a copy of this magazine at our family reunion in July -- my grandfather wrote an article in this issue called "Are We Becoming Paranoid?"
I thought my scanner at work would be able to handle the odd size job (10" x 14") but in the end I'm resorting to scanning half pages and stitching them together in photoshop. Ug. What a pain. I also hope to check out the latest OCR as soon as I have the scans in decent shape. It's a long-ish article (surprise, surprise, say those who know me or read this diary...)
Also in this issue: fiction by F. Scott Fitzgerald entitled "Boil Some Water -- Lots of It" among other interesting articles, ads, and cartoons from a more innocent era.
Scans on their way here after I do some more delicate surgery. Meantime, my grandfather:

Later this evening, more Electric Gauchos listening, like this one -- completely unedited: Not Bad for a Tuesday. (8.325M mp3)
Also pulled out another wild-ride 15+ minute textural improvisation from the same session, but must shift gears now to another hour or so of email. More music coming this weekend, including "Electric Pulse Division" from the Seattle Guitar Circle's recording session at Premier Soundworks in June.

End of year Reviews climaxing this week for my 'direct reports' -- one down today, two to go tomorrow. Stressful times, in general.

Other quick news: heard from old friend and collaborator Ken Kato that old friend and bandmate, Sanford Ponder, has moved to So. Cal and bought 250 acres of land. Hopefully, his Icosa Villiage email address will still work so I can contact him about re-releasing Mary Lou's REAL on CD. Seems she could use some help right now, and this little gem that's been hiding in the closet for ten years could become her safety net (or retirement fund) if we play our cards well.
